Jamie into TibetAbove is Everest from the Pang La, in Tibet. Project HimalayaCurrently the Project Himalaya team is trekking in the Khumbu, the Nepal side of Everest to acclimatize. They are trekking, not climbing. Later on 22 April they will travel to Tibet to Everest Base Camp to begin the actual climb. Nepal politics is at an interesting stage but we have a "Plan B" if the troubles continue... Everest Peace ProjectIn Kathmandu I focused on ensuring we had all the supplies and other details sorted out. For me the team was secondary. Now that we have successfully left Kathmandu I am getting to know the team better. We are becoming a team, slowly. 15-16 AprilWe are now at Tingri, 4350m. Tonya and myself went for a hike 1000ft/350m above the town for some acclimatization and exercise. Now I really understand where Tonya is coming from, interesting and this always helps. We met Namgyal at Tingri, unfortunately Nuri Zangbu, one of the EPP climbing sherpas became sick with an undefined but serious illness and thankfully Namgyal arranged a Landcruiser with Sanduk to bring him out. He was taken to Zhangmu on the 15th and on the 16th crossed the border and was flown by helicopter to Kathmandu. It was sad to see him sick and to go but it was definitely the best decision. We will find out what was wrong with him in a day or two.
Carved into the rock gorge; that amazing section of road leaving Zhangmu.
