Welcome to Trailblazer author Jamie McGuinness' current
trekkers updates.
New trekking circuits - RamechapFrom promotional material: Escape the congestion of commercialized trekking routes and get ‘off-the-beaten track’ to experience the REAL Nepal along the country's newest trekking trails. Ramechhap offers an experience not found elsewhere in Nepal. Only 100km’s from Kathmandu, trekking in Ramechhap offers magnificent Himalayan panoramas, lush rhododendron forests and unique cultural experiences. Sandwiched between the high Himalayan range to the north and the rolling Maharbhata range in the south, trekking here offers a multitude of destinations, all accessible without air flights. Ramechhap district lies immediately east of Kathmandu, stretching from the Sun Koshi (river) to the base of the Everest range. With elevations varying from 488m at the Sun Koshi River to Numburchuili peak at 6909m. Spread before you are rolling foothills dotted with isolated farming communities, crowned by an array of snow peaks that will leave you breathless. Rhododendron forests give way to bamboo groves which in turn vanish into the tantalizingly close Himalayan peaks, and the dominant religion changes from Hinduism to Buddhism. Trekking in Ramechhap takes you beyond mainstream tourism. You'll meet real people from different Indigenous Communities and learn far more about them and their culture than on conventional tours. You'll feel better knowing that your visit is genuinely helping your hosts. And if you want to simply lie on a beach.... well, Ramechhap feature one of the best beaches in Nepal! Two treks have been developed that can be combined as well for a 21 day trek: Indigenous People's Trail - 7 daysThe first of its kind in Nepal, the Indigenous Peoples Trail offers unique, living, exposure to one of the most culturally diverse areas of Nepal. Spectacular panoramic mountain views and easy scenic trekking at relatively low elevations. See IPTrail.org. Numbur Cheese Circuit - 14 daysSuperb breathtaking views of majestic Himalayan peaks alongside the largest cheese production area in Nepal. Walk through the deep river gorges, tea plantations, terraced rice fields, subtropical forests, high yak pastures and Sherpa villages to remote monasteries, numerous glacial lakes, the Lhiku Khola glacier, and Numburchuili Base Camp where you may catch a glimpse of the elusive snow leopard. See NumburCheeseCircuit.org. Lhenjo La (Renjo La) commentIf the route over the pass is open then the lodges on the other side are open, everyone, lodge owners and myself assures you, even in winter. Bruce found otherwise: "Despite being told otherwise, the lodges at Lungden were closed and there was only one seriously basic lodge open at Marlung. We walked from Gokyo to Thame in 8 1/2 hours. Character forming - anyone doing this route should be prepared for this." Coming from Thame to Gokyo Bruce also found the route from the top of the pass wasn't clear, although this is not usually a problem as most people trek it the other way.
