Everest Pilgrimage Trek - Nepal

An early spring trek along the beautiful trails of the land of the Sherpa's, climbing the high viewpoints of the Everest region and visiting the power places of Buddhism along the way; the rightly famous Tengboche, but also the smaller Gomi La and Lauda Gompas in their tranquil hilltop eyries.

8-27 Mar, 20 days -- teahouse trekking -- Joel Schone -- US$1980

Everest High Passes - Nepal

Trek the best of the Everest region: the Cho La and Renjo La passes, the spectacular Gokyo lakes region, Gokyo Ri, Kala Pattar and Chukhung peaks and remote Thame valley, relaxing in cozy Sherpa lodges en route. And, of course, Everest Base Camp.

8 Mar-2 Apr, 26 days -- teahouse trekking -- Kim Bannister -- US$2480

2007

Everest Sherpa Christmas Trek - Nepal

Christmas in the Everest region under blue December skies. We explore Namche's weekly market, head up the Gokyo valley to Gokyo's turquoise lakes, trek to the Renjo La, visit Tengboche Gompa and explore the traditional Sherpa villages of the Khumbu. Stay a few extra days for New Year's Eve in Kathmandu if you can!

8-28 Dec, 21 days -- teahouse trekking -- Kim Bannister -- US$2180
Team: Steve, Rob & Laurence

Everest High Passes Trek - Nepal

The best - virtually all - of the Everest region; we cross the Cho La and the Renjo La, explore the spectacular Gokyo lakes region, climb Gokyo Ri and Kala Pattar, visit Everest Base Camp, Chukhung, and more, relaxing in cozy Sherpa lodges en route.

21 Apr-15 May, 25 days -- teahouse trekking -- Kim Bannister -- US$2350
Team: Martin, John & Steve

How did these three ever find each other? Karma, I'm sure ... Martin, John & Steve, who had never met before, must have been long lost brothers in a past life; how I fit in I'm not sure! But we all had an amazing trek, even with our various mishaps (such as tuna food poisoning, don't do it before a pass!), and I know they'll be back. Together ...

2006 Fall

Everest Gokyo Trail

A delightful autumn journey to the land of the Sherpas; beautiful walking to the turquoise Gokyo lakes, the Renjo La pass - and a fascinating culture that still endures.

11-29 Oct, 19 days -- teahouse trekking -- Leader: Joel Schone -- $1780
Team: Joe and Brenna Stein

2006 Spring

 2005 Everest Autumn

Everest Gokyo & Kala Pattar Christmas

Join us for Christmas in the Everest region under crisp, blue December skies without the October hordes. We explore the stunning Gokyo lakes, climb Kala Pattar, visit old Sherpa villages and Buddhist gompas and relax with friends in cozy lodges.

4-29 Dec, 26 days -- teahouse trekking -- leader: Kim & Lhakpa -- US$2290
Team: Ben & Maddy, Jim & Irving, James, Sarah, Lowell and Tashi (guest photographer)

Perfectly blue December skies, with just a touch of cloudy weather under over the Nupste wall; December treks don't get much better than this one! Jim, Irv, Sarah, James, Lowell, Maddy & Ben made it up most of the peaks for exceptional mountain panoramas and then luxuriated by the Sherpa stoves. Tashi Ghale, our 'guest' photographer from Manang, awed us with sunset shots of the moon over 8000 meter peaks, Lhakpa took us on a tour of the Khumbu as seen through the windows of his extended family's guest houses and Lowell managed 'Namche Base Camp'. Kim celebrated her birthday under Mount Everest at Kala Pattar, and Xmas Eve in Kyangjuma & Xmas in Monjo were cozy and filled with good food and drink. Special 'thanks' to Dave R for his inspiration throughout the trek. Thanks to all for a wonderful Christmas trek!

Top: Ben, Maddy, Jim; bottom: Lhakpa, James, Sarah; missing: Kim and Lowell

Everest Base Camp trek - Gokyo and Kala Pattar - Nepal

The very best of the Everest region at the very best time, slightly later to avoid the October high season; Gokyo lakes, the Cho La, and of course Everest Base camp and Kala Pattar, with plenty of time to enjoy this once in a life time trip.

3-28 Nov, 26 days -- teahouse trekking -- Joel Schone -- US$2250
Team: Peter Sih

2005 Everest Spring

Classic Everest treks in Nepal and Tibet, all in safe regions!

Everest Base Camp trek - Gokyo and Kala Pattar - Nepal

Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains. This trek has it all: Gokyo lakes, the Cho la pass, and of course Everest Base camp and Kala Pattar, with plenty of time to enjoy this once in a life time trip.

23 Apr-16 May, 24 days -- teahouse trekking -- leader: Joel Schone -- US$2250
Team: Sonia Basso, David O'Leary, Andy & Katherine Ody.

Joel writes:
Trekking is beautiful, exhausting, exhilarating. And hard! And our spring Everest trek was all those things; terrible weather, but clear on both Gokyo and Kala Pattar. The trek, kick started by Andy and Katherine Ody by asking us to move the dates of our departure, was joined by David in Irish strip, and then Sonia from Argentina asked about Tibet, ended up coming to only the first part of the trek, then all of it, after I had spent half an hour reassuring her mother on the phone about how safe Everest was; "How safe is Nepal and where is it?"

So a Scotsman and his Greek wife, an Irishman, an Argentinean and an American. Thank you for your company and for getting through all that bad weather without 'Buns of steel'.

Everest High Passes trek - Nepal

The best - indeed virtually all - of the Everest region; we cross the Cho La and the Renjo La, explore the stunning Gokyo lakes region, climb Gokyo Ri and Kala Pattar, visit Everest Base Camp and more, relaxing in cozy Sherpa lodges along the way.

12 Apr-5 May, 24 days -- teahouse trekking -- leader: Kim Bannister -- US$2250

So, a slightly belated THANK YOU to you all for making the High Passes trip such a wonderful one for me, for being so enthusiastic about every day, for helping me and each other and for being such great company throughout the trek and our extended time in Kathmandu. I miss you all!

Mera expedition 6476m - Nepal

Mountains so big, you fall over backwards looking at them! Although the route is heavily crevassed there are no other major obstacles, most people fail on this peak only because of acclimatization. We do it smart with a couple of extra days.

4-26 Apr, 23 days -- expedition-style -- leader: Billi Bierling -- US$2480
Team: Dr Sam, Dr Marwan, Rosanna.

Rosanna writes: our trek was wonderful, all of us summitted, with Pasang, Zangbu and Nahua, and I'm extremely happy about the whole adventure. Billi is fantastic, and she has been a perfect leader, not only from the "mountain" point of view, but also as team-mate, tent-mate and friend!!

On top of Mera Peak! Marwan, Billi and Sam; Rosanna lower - by Rosanna

2004

Everest Gokyo Christmas - Nepal

The Everest region is our second home and we know some amazing trails and 'secret' spots to share with our trekkers. We have time to explore the stunning Gokyo lakes, Buddhist gompas and relax with friends in cozy Sherpa lodges. Join us for Himalayan peak views under crisp, blue December skies.

Dates: 8-28 Dec, 21 days. Services: teahouse style. Leaders: Joel & Kim. Cost: US$1880.
Team: Doug, David, Camilla.

A wonderful Christmas trek, with blue skies, a light dusting of snow, and just a bit of chilling wind to remind us that we were trekking in the Himalaya. Perfect Gokyo views, Kim's birthday overlooking Gokyo lake, a few bottles of wine en route down, Joel providing shopping tips (and examples) en route and a classic 'Sherpa' Christmas with Santa and all in Lukla. Doug has it all on video, we'll keep you posted of the film festival next featuring his film. We saw the girls that we sponsor in Monjo, where we had a Christmas Eve with plenty to eat and drink, and Phura Diki from Jorsale found school sponsors - Camilla & David. And countless good times and laughs  both on the trek and back in Kathmandu! A reunion is in the planning!

DCXP Lobuche East

Jamie worked for DCXP as one of the four assistant guides guiding a team of 10 from Adelaide up Lobuche East.

Nangpa La *exploratory

A last minute trip planned on the back of an envelope.

Dates: . Services: teahouse and light expedition. Cost: shared.
Team: L-R Baba, Billi, the stray Dr Mike, Namgya who pulled the cans of juice out of nowhere and Pemba; photo by Jamie, below.

Everyone else was probably grateful they didn't have to sleep out on top of the Nangpa La. Jamie did for the third time, and was charged by a yak for his pains, imagine dancing around in -10C in just socks and longjohns for half an hour while the yak tossed his gear. We also crossed an unmarked pass into the Gokyo valley, quite an achievement, and even bagged a research peak, but perhaps the most satisfying was camping out lots of beautiful nights then relaxing at one of the most beautiful spots, Gokyo.

Everest Base Camp trek - Gokyo and Kala Pattar - Nepal

Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains. We allow two extra trekking days over all other companies for weather hiccups and so that you can acclimatize properly. If you come this far you want to get there! Most other foreign companies use tents. We can't work out why, when the teahouses are so good...

Dates: 12 Oct-4 Nov, 24 days. Services: teahouse trekking. Leader: Kim Bannister. Cost: $1980.
Trekkers: Margaret, Jim, Carolyn, Terry, Jason and Simon.
Crew: Ang Pasang and Nima.

What a trek, and never has the Everest region dispensed so much hot water for showers! From Jim's post-election diatribes against Bush to just about everyone in the Everest region, jokes and stories (heard around the lodge before sunrise), his birthday at Kala Pattar around a cozy stove, Margaret providing the softer side of the southern culture and keeping us laughing through the trek, Carolyn as princess (but the strongest and fastest ever to have hit Everest) dressed in lovely luminescent lemony-lime jackets, Terry always quick with a witty comment or some good Aussie humor, and the dynamic duo Jason & Simon, great company to the end, Simon the photographer always with camera in hand to record the moments and Jason, well, just Jason (you've got to experience a trek with Jason). Wonderful weather and views throughout, and Dawa Yangi has found a school sponsor, Margaret!

Namche Explorer

For my mother & friends, aged 65 to 77!!!!

Dates: 14-28 Oct. Services: teahouse trekking. Leader: Jamie McG.
Trekkers: L-R; Mary, Margaret, Karma, (Gyalgen), Jill and Shirley.
Crew: Jamie, Gyalgen (in the photo), Ang Dami and Kipa.

Custom Khumbu

A private group for a relaxed look around the Everest region - for that 'classical' view of Everest!

Dates: 28 Mar-23 Apr. Services: teahouse trekking. Leader: Kim Bannister. Cost: $2080.
Team: Elisabet* and Albert*. Crew: Lhakpa Sherpa.

These Catalanians, Elisabet & Albert, have been 'Everest dreaming' for years, and after not being able to sort out a Tibet trip for them last year due to the SARS epidemic, we put together a last minute Everest trip up the Kala Pattar side, with Lhakpa as guide #2, and early morning leader (while Kim organized logistics INSIDE the lodges!). Highlights abounded, such as an avalanche off the Nuptse wall (side trip from Chukhung) and unbelievable views and a 'new' route to Lobuche along the glacier rim from below Gorak Shep, and not an afternoon's siesta missed en route!

Dates: 25 Mar-17 Apr, 24 days. Services: teahouse trekking. Leader: Joel Schone. Cost: $1880.
Team: Martin, Tea.

Mera Peak 6476m - Nepal

See Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse and Kanchenjunga all at once! And those are just the 8000m mountains, never mind the spectacular rest. Yep, one stunning panorama and one great expedition experience.

Dates: 14 Mar-5 Apr, 23 days. Services: expedition-style. Leader: Dawa Gelje. Cost: $1950.
Team: John K.

John felt unusually sane compared to the looney Frenchman who had a fake? Grivel ice axe break on him and blamed his sherpa and to the suicidal Canadians that fell into a crevasse. John will be back.

Dates: 3-26 Mar, 24 days. Services: teahouse trekking. Leader: Joel Schone. Cost: $1880 / €1480.
Team: Tor, Jules and Jim F.

2003

Anniversary Hillary Khumbu Traverse

A 50th jubilee Everest trek, and yes, we visit Everest Base Camp. We know many of the big Everest names and will meet many of them on the trail, last year we met Jamling and Tashi Tenzing (with Peter Hillary), Guy Cotter and many others.

Dates: April, 22 days. Services: teahouse trekking. Leader: Joel Schone. Cost: $1980.
Team: Bob Moul.

2002

Christmas High Khumbu & Island Peak 6173m - Everest trek

Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains, by visiting Gokyo Lakes, Everest Base Camp, Kala Pattar and climbing Island Peak. We allow two extra trekking days over all other companies for weather hiccups and so that you can acclimatize properly. If you come this far you want to get there! All other foreign companies use tents. We can't work out why, when the teahouses are so good...

Dates: 9 Dec-2 Jan, 25 days. Services: teahouse trekking and light expedition style.
Leaders: Jamie (& Joel & Kim for parts). Cost: US$2220/€2250/£1420, trek only: $1980/€1980/£1280.
Team: Peter P**, Graeme L, Michael P*.

Instead of Island Peak we went exploring on an easier peak but this still wasn't within our three trekker's capacities. So as a bonus we took a brief reconnaissance of Lumding Kharka. What a trail, surely one of the wickedest in the Himalaya, steep, and so small you couldn't even tell you were on it half the time. We found out later it had been virtually unused for 5 years. We will be back.

see the Christmas Khumbu 2002 photo galleries (needs a big screen and fast connection).

High Khumbu & Island Peak 6173m

Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains, by visiting Gokyo Lakes, Everest BC/Kala Pattar and climbing Island Peak. We allow two extra trekking days over all other companies for weather hiccups and so that you can acclimatize properly. If you come this far you want to get there! All other foreign companies use tents. We can't work out why, when the teahouses are so good...

Dates: 18 Mar-11 Apr, 25 days. Services: teahouse trekking and light expedition style. Leaders: Jamie & Joel. Cost: US$1980/€2250/£1400.
Team members: Kasumi, Brendan & Sarah, Louise*, Andy (my brother)

Yes, we saw a snow leopard! Our plans for Island Peak changed since Brendan, normally healthy, suffered some sickness, so instead Andy and myself went up the wild Kyajok valley for some exploring.

2001

Christmas High Khumbu & Island Peak 6173m

Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains, by visiting Gokyo Lakes, Everest BC and climbing Island Peak. We allow three extra trekking days over all other companies for weather hiccups and so that you can acclimatize properly. If you come this far you want to get there! Bonus Christmas turkey in Kathmandu. All other foreign companies use tents. We can't work out why, when the teahouses are so good...

Dates: 30 Nov - 26 Dec, 27 days. Services: teahouse trekking and light expedition style. Leaders: Jamie, Joel & Kim. Cost: US$1980.
Team members: Jan, Stephen, Roman and Urs.

Obviously this was combined with the trip below, and so was the fun. Ironically the 'climbers' had more problems than the trekkers. Urs couldn't sleep, Stephen headed down from Gokyo to recover and then met us later in Lobuche, and Roman soldiered on with a horrible cold. Jan flew the team colours though by summitting Island Peak with me.

Hillary Khumbu

Don't fancy the climb (above)? Join for just the trek then, and when the climbers head off to Island Peak, you head down the valley with Joel. And this gets you home in time for a family Christmas.

Dates: 30 Nov - 22 Dec, 23 days. Services: teahouse trekking. Leaders: Jamie, Joel & Kim (with the above trip). Cost: US$1780.
Team members: Aoife, Rory, Sheila, Akhilesh.

2000

Tengboche Christmas

A guaranteed white Christmas, and a never to be forgotten Christmas dinner. The trekking won't be hard, just fun. And it even suits UK teach hols - surprising that!

Catherine says: This is a quick note to say thank you very much for looking after us over the last three weeks. I had a brilliant time. (Although I was told that I behaved 'disgracefully' on the last night! ['flirtatiously', we would have said!])

I cannot believe that I am back [in the UK]. Its cold, wet and dreary here and I'm stone cold sober. [She is returning, and did...]

Catherine and Jason also wrote a wonderful poem.

Dates: 15 Dec - 1 Jan. Service: teahouse trekking. Leader: Joel Schone. Cost: cheap
Friends and relatives: Jason Schone* (Joel's brother), Catherine*.

High Khumbu & Island Peak 6173m

Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains, by climbing Island Peak. We allow three extra trekking days over all other companies for weather hiccups and so that you can acclimatize properly. If you come this far you want to get there! Sure, we climb Kala Pattar, and there's time enough for Everest Base Camp but first we explore the delightful Gokyo Valley, yep this trek has it all and we are the most experienced operators - Jamie has been to the region 20 times!

See Joel and Jamie's diary, with bits from Martin...

There are a few people on this trip who will be sorry if they don't come trekking with us again. You are WANTED!

Dates: 27 Nov - 21 Dec, 25 days. Services: teahouse trekking and light expedition style. Leader: Jamie McGuinness. Cost: US$1950.
Team members: Frank, Rosie, Martin, Ivan, Ken Hummel*, Terry, Robert (and Nigel* and Wendy for the climb).

"Real" Mera Peak 6648m

Private, short notice expedition...

Yep, we have been there, seen the real thing, and it is scary, that is one mother of an ice fall, so dangerous we gave up. Then there is the upper section of the mountain... This peak is probably the most difficult peak of the 'limited bureaucracy' peaks. We will be back!

One would expect that on a trek with two trek leaders and a mountain guide who all guide in Nepal that the trek-climb would be well organized. Perhaps there were a lack of Indians, whatever, we had no water purification, a fact that worried no one, we drank from streams and rivers without effect, and mostly the water was delicious.

Then Jamie walked out solo towards Hille... Often it is simply a case of asking locals where the clean water is. 'We drink from the river' said the people of a few shacks by the Sabbaya Khola near Tumlingtar, a heavily populated area. So down at the river just as I was filling my water bag a boy ran up yelling 'No, that is dirty water, that is where we go to toilet.' Oh. 'I will get clean water for you', and he waded out three metres and drew the water from there...

So you think the Arun Valley is hot in winter?

Resolving to beat the heat, the alarm woke me at 5am but it was dumping with rain so I rolled over and only got away at 6am. Fifteen minutes later my singlet was wet, my arms and legs listening, it must have been 28-30 degrees already, even before the sun came up. Having swam in some of the kholas that flowed into the Arun, I imagined that it would be warm. How wrong! The muddy river, at least to my sweat-soaked body, was spine-tinglingly cold and it was only with the bravest of dives total immersion happened, but once in, I lounged around and on the trail I was cool and sweat-free for a good half hour.

Dates: May-early June. Team of guides: Jamie, Duncan and wingnut (Steve).

Khumbu Exploring - Everest region

Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains. We go exploring with Jamie as he updates his guide book "Trekking in the Everest region". We'll throw in a peak or two as well.

Freedom! Gokyo, Lobuche (met lots of friends heading up to supply Everest expeditions or climb it) and Chukhung. Climbed a previously unmentioned 5800m viewpoint and generally had an incredible trek.

Dates: 21 March. Service: Teahouse trekking/light expedition style. Cost: cheap

1999

Classic Khumbu

Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains. We allow three extra trekking days over all other companies for weather hiccups and so that you can acclimatize properly. If you come this far you want to get there! Sure, we climb Kala Pattar (the best view point to see Everest), and there's time enough for Everest Base Camp and to return via Phortse... So far everybody has booked the trek with the Island Peak extension.
This is an HEC (Himalayan Explorer's Club) members trip but other trekkers/climbers are welcome to join.

Two last minute cancellations meant we were only John, Leon and yours truly. It was a good trek. For the most part we had great weather, met loads of Everest expeditions and even saw the beginning of the Everest Marathon. Kala Pattar, tick that and at Everest Base Camp we visited a friend. He didn't summit due to a cold or flu at just the wrong time, similarly read below for our Island Peak...

Dates: 29 Mar - 17 Apr. Service: Teahouse trekking. Leader: Jamie McGuinness. Cost: US$1580, UK£950.
Team members: John K, Leon

Island Peak 6189m

If you are acclimatized, why waste it? If you have a dream of climbing a 6000m/20,000ft Himalayan peak then this is the one for you. Join the Classic Khumbu above, or teahouse trek Gokyo alone (or with a porter-guide) and meet us in Chukhung for the climb only.

Yep, previously strong John was struck down with a nasty cold at exactly the wrong time and Leon ran out of oomph so we turned around at 6000m very disappointed. The consolation for me was we had planned to cross the Kongma La for acclimatization and both John and Leon thought it was better to save their energy. Mike and Billi, two individual trekkers rescued me, they had no gear but I did, so we crossed the pass, nipped up Pokalde and discovered Kongmatse can't easily be done from the Kongma La side... Crossing the pass and exploring was so incredibly beautiful - can't wait to do it again!

Dates: 12 - 17 Apr, or 29 Mar - 22 Apr with the Classic Khumbu above. Service Base Camp support. Leader: Jamie McGuinness. Cost: US$520 with the Classic Khumbu, US$750 climb only.

1998

Mera Expedition 6476m

Mountains so big, you fall over backwards looking at them! Midnight blue skies, crunchy snow and a 6476m peak to explore. No climbing experience necessary: although the route is heavily crevassed there are no other major obstacles. Most people fail on this peak only because of acclimatization. We do it smart. We take a adventurous route in then explore untouched valleys to acclimatize for the climb. Bad weather? No problem, we have a few days up our sleeve. Bonus: Christmas in Kathmandu! organized in association with HEC (Himalayan Explorers Club).

This was a classic trekking-climbing trip. Real wilderness and we met only two other trekking groups during the whole three weeks. Our Smart Panch Pokhari acclimatization route in was well worth the extra days and also did its job - we were so well acclimatized that nobody had any problems sleeping at 5000m. What was really surprising, given that it was real winter, was that during our first summit attempt, it wasn't even cold. One person reached their altitude limit at 5400m, another at 6000m, and one more tired at 6400m. On our second attempt the view from high camp proved to be so good that none of the team felt like going any higher... It was left to Jamie to salvage the expedition's reputation, so he summitted the mountain twice. A truly superb and very experienced trekking crew helped to make this a wonderful trek for everyone.

Dates: 1 - 26 Dec 98. Service: Mixed expedition style and light expedition style. Leader: Jamie McGuinness. Cost: US$1880.
Team members: Al Aubin, Peter P, Rob. Sirdar: P Pasang.

Classic Khumbu

The spring version of the trek that people want. Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains. We allow three extra days over all other companies for weather hiccups and so that you can acclimatize properly. If you come this far you want to get there! Includes the Chitwan Experience for a perfect end. Rafting the rough and tumble Bhote Kosi an option.

Our best yet! We had a fun team of seven trekkers. The crew did a sterling job and only one person, the three score ten, among us, didn't summit Kala Pattar (and she asserted at the beginning of the trek that the experience was going to be more important than one view...).  We know that all future trips will be as good as this was.

Dates: 18 Mar - 9 Apr 98. Service: Teahouse trekking. Cost: US$1720, NZ$2450.

1997

Everest High Altitude - *exploratory

A spectacular adventure. We explore all the high valleys of the Khumbu (Jamie is updating his guide book Trekking in the Everest Region). Teahouse trekking. Can be tailored to suit your aspirations. Max number of trekkers is 3.

Great trip but enjoyed by only one person. We visited Gokyo and climbed to a new viewpoint then crossed the Cho La to Lobuche. From there we trekked to Chukhung, visited Mark Whetu and his team who were warming up on Island Peak for Shishapangma.

Dates Kathmandu to Kathmandu: 3 - 27 Sep 97. Service: Teahouse trekking. Leader: Jamie McGuinness. Cost: US$1000, NZ$1800.

Quick Khumbu and Island Peak 6189m

Why Kala Pattar (close to Everest Base Camp)? Because its there. No, really it's a stunning trek. Once acclimatized, why waste it? We will cross the 5535m Kongma La and attempt Island Peak 6189m for extra rewards.

Seven of us set off for the trek and all except one made the summit of Kala Pattar. We had the option of staying an extra day to get the last member up but he preferred to move onto Island Peak. Reid and Andy (from the last marathon set of peaks in Annapurna) joined four of us for Island Peak. We trekked directly to high camp where we were just about blown off the mountain. Conditions weren't any better the next morning but four out of seven set off with three of us summiting. We fixed rope along the summit ridge in case anyone was blown off.

Dates: 8 Nov - 3 Dec 97. Services: Teahouse trekking and light expedition style. Leader: Jamie McGuinness. Cost: US$2080.

Khumbu 6000m exploring - *exploratory trek

Midnight blue skies, crunchy snow, 5700m high passes and a peak or two are waiting just for us. December is the finest and driest month.

Wayne (NZ) and Leighton (Wales) who had just trekked to Gokyo joined myself, Reid and Andy for an attempt of Parcharmo, crossing the Tashi Labtsa and the climb of Ramdung-Go.

We camped virtually on top of the Tashi Labtsa to try Parcharmo 6318m. A -12Cº wind and no sun eventually turned us back at approx 6150m. Reid's nose was beginning to freeze, and he felt rather attached to it... Over the pass we camped in an ice fall and awoke to snow. We were in absolutely the worst place to be when a huge dump of snow hit us. What should have been a two or three day walk across glaciers and moraine turned into a VERY TOUGH 5 day slog thru horrendously deep stove. We arrived at the nearest village completely out of fuel and food but alive. December certainly wasn't the finest and driest month.

Dates: Early Dec 97. Service: Light expedition style. Leader: Jamie McGuinness. Cost: US$cheap.
Team: Reid**, Andy**, Wayne Fowler*, Leighton

More than 2 metres of snow fell, perhaps as much as 4 metres.
Reid on a convenient big rock, Andy in orange where there is no rock,
Wayne behind standing on a rock, Leighton sitting on one. Photo by Jamie.

Christmas Quick Khumbu

This is the trek that people want. Experience the Sherpa high country and the incredible mountains. We allow three extra days over all other companies for weather hiccups and so that you can acclimatize properly. If you come this far you want to get there!
