2008 season

For several years India and Pakistan have been trying to resolve differences, and tensions are at their lowest for years. The countries are slowly moving (with inevitable hiccups) towards a permanent solution.

We still do not recommend travelling in the Kashmir valley or to Srinagar, there is still a low but real chance of a random incident. Trekking is also still risky around there. Give it a year or two more for a proper peace agreement.

Sikkim

There are no unusual personal security issues that you should be aware of while travelling in Sikkim. Assam is making the headlines constantly but these have no effect on Sikkim travel.
