Sheila's Khumbu High trek photos 3: crossing the Cho La

So now after Gokyo we trekked to Thangnak and crossed the Cho La.

the gang in front of the stunning Cholatse

Some of the gang, L to R: Joel, Roman, Aoife, Jan, Rory kneeling looking at the incredibly fine sand,
Akhilesh and Sheila. In fact this is known as the best sand there is in the region, probably in Nepal,
and is used for the special sand mandalas that are periodically made at the gompas.

Wow, that is the Cho La from Lobuche Peak - photo by Jamie

The Cho La from a particularly impressive angle, and it is a tough climb up to its 5420m pass,
but the view is more than worth the effort.

The team went exploring, following the porters and Joel, and their route down, the old way, was spectacular, but a challenging descent.
Jamie and Roman, a good hour behind them, took the normal route to beat them down.

Ama Dablam

As usual the porters were stars. Here the backdrop is the spectacular Cholatse.

Classic Cholatse, a star of the everest region

Walking between Dzonglha and Lobuche is surely one of the most spectacular in the whole region
and certainly a favourite section of mine. You trek opposite Cholatse for a couple of hours.
