Sheila's Khumbu High trek photosThanks Sheila! Sheila, Rory and Aiofe were the gang from Ireland who trekked with us thru the Khumbu in Dec 2001. In fact there were eleven of us westerners all up, including myself, Joel and Kim. The pictures are in a rough sort of chronological order and get better further in! We begin with Lukla to Namche...

The middle hills of Nepal...
Lukla has a newly tar-sealed runway and although the landing is still exciting, it isn't as rough as it once was: below is Martin's picture of landing in 1999.
We visited Monjo School, where Joel had assisted with a teaching program. The young ones get a more homely classroom, the older kids, a more formal one.
Kim, who also worked on the teaching program, was always invited in for tea by this family. And so we had tea with them as well. the place was basic but wonderful. |
